The Warden's House on Alcatraz Island was the residence of the prison warden and his family during the operation of the infamous federal prison from 1934 to 1963. The 3-story, Georgian-style building was constructed in 1921 and is located on the northwest side of the island, providing stunning views of San Francisco Bay. The house features generously sized rooms, including a formal dining room, living room, and library, as well as a large basement and attic. The Warden's House is a popular stop for visitors to Alcatraz, and is included on the National Register of Historic Places. Today it serves as a museum and is maintained by the National Park Service as part of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area.
